The Only Constant is Change

When you take a person's time, you are taking part of his life. He could have used that time well to promote himself, improve the society and rule the world, but was short of that one hour you took from him.

Time is life. Once taken, forever lost. There is no giving it back.

Be respectful of people and don't just assume that hour was allocated specially for you. Don't assume the one hour was well-spent, do not ever do things at people's expense.

He could be in reality fidgeting for you to wrap up and everything you said (wrote) could have been mere words.

.. I apologize '_'

p/s: Sigh, Atiqah, twice does it. Have you repented?

Red Hijab Day menyambut Kemenangan 2-1 Kelantan

Red Hijab Day.

Rambo in Pathology

The fun lies in what happened today at Dr. Ehab's tuition, when we had our second section where we saw five slides of liver.

"If you move your slides haphazardly, you will be Lost. Season 5."

Lost starring Missy the cat.

I laughed and Dr. Ehab continued rather sheepishly.

"Actually there is season 9 but they found nothing. I prefer Desperate Housewives."

Thus I relaxed myself to a class of cultural referances, crossed my legs and happily took notes of everything. It's like living a Hey Soul Sister or Hollywood. And I am sure the average living colleagues of mine will be Lost to what this post is about :) thus the declining number of people with faith in my sensibility.

"In jars, there is hallucination you can adapt to. In slides, it is the art of reality."

I seriously love that part; it summarized the difficulty I had in translating the jars we had in the Pathology museum without the help and guidance the lecturers and the book.

Like seriously. If you have no basic on the theoretical part of a pathological description, there is no way you can describe the jars. Thus the hallucination because you know what is there immersed in formalin, but it's not really that visually palpable.

Also today we had section of a hepatocellular carcinoma (which some lecturers might prefer to as hepatoma) and Dr. Ehab gave us the common description of a cancerous tissue. He gave us the analogy of American troops invading Afghanistan and Iraq and we might easily distinguish the invaders through their large number moving in masses wearing identical fatigues and also by their language.

"There is no invasion by a single cell, unless it's Rambo or whatever."

John Rambo.

And at the end of class, Syaimaa' said, "-unless it's Rambo or Atiqah Hanifah."

I think she overrated me; I am an innocent cell with no anaplastic features whatsoever.

Saiko-ed. (read: traumatized)

The other day (read: last Wednesday okay shoot me) I accidentally slept in Pathology class during the lecture of aetiological aspects of neoplasia. At the end of that section, Dr. Samia gave us four questions as homework.

Which I am doing now.

Izyan: ada (homework) ker?
Izyan: mana ada

Atiqah: weh ada la!
Atiqah: homework part aku tertidur, haha blurr ok?
Atiqah: TT_TT

Atiqah: carcinogens tu

Izyan: hahaah..sapa suh ko tido...tido lah awal2

Atiqah: ter ok, TER

Izyan: soalan tu aku dah siap hari dia bgi tu gk

I was stunned :|

Atiqah: kau siap homework pada hari tu jugak, compared to me yang tertidur and haha ok ko dah saiko aku
Atiqah: bb

Izyan: haha...sabar2...senang jer....gud luck dlm menyiapkan nya

With friends like this, how could you not want, love, crave to study? I love being a part of MEP8!

Tolerance

Dr. Hala of Microbiology department gave us a 15-minute break in between our 3-hour lecture. Most of the guys had exited the class and I turned towards one classmate; smiling my pre-typhoon smile.

I think the confrontation went rather diplomatically. I said my okay and Syaimaa’ on my right excitedly called for my attention. “Eh Atiqah, kau dah lain eh sekarang.”

“Huh?”

“Tahun 1, 2, dulu kau serang orang.” She clawed her hands in Beba-style. “Cari pasal, kau terus serang.”

“Oh.” I did?

Soon after, class resumed.

“-but for self organ, deficient response will elicit self-tolerance,” our doctor lectured. “That is to say the immune reponse is tolerant to the organ, not causing any auto-immunity.”

I smirked. “Syaimaa’, aku dah tolerant sekarang,” I half-whispered.

”Huh?”

I’m answering your previous question la. ”Aku dah tolerant.”

”Tolerant that is, for example, someone who is strong and capable and upon dealing with weaker organism, will be okay with it.” Dr. Hala continued. “ ‘Yes, I know you are a stupid idiot but I’m okay with that, won’t respond to that (provocation).’ The immune system may be tolerant to one thing, but not to another.”

Syaimaa’ smirked. I chuckled. We gave each other low high-five.

Discreetly of course; we were still in class :)

p/s: Kawan-kawan, dalam kelas kite kene fokus ye.

Naj*b is Alone

Last Saturday, Kak Syafaf gave me a pair of fishes. They had stream-lined body with glistening silver scales and orange fins and tail. One was 4.5cm while the other one was 4cm in length.

I gave them the first pair of names I could think of; Naj*b and Rosm*h.

---

The first time I had fishes for pet was when I was 9 years old. We had an aquarium full with fishes which Percy and another red-eared slider nibbled on and an ikan laga sequestering in his own jar.

They spent some times with us but the goldfishes died early (Percy ate them, I always forgot to feed those hungry turtles). The ikan laga died asphyxiated because I overfed him (the whole water surface was covered in fish chow) and Percy and the other slider ran away through the drain (I left them in a bucket outside when it was raining).

And earlier when I had Yuuno dearest, Ara bought six fishes which died the very next day. Seriously, thus cementing my non-existing faith in fishes' lifespan.

Which is why I wasn't surprised to come back to the house today and see Rosm*h floating hopelessly in the jar. She died on me just after 5 days. Sigh.

I don't know; was it something I did wrong? Not enough love perhaps; we breathe on love, don't we? By the way, she started to swim in tilt from two nights ago and last night she was already doing pathetic backstrokes with Naj*b nudging her close to the surface.

Now Naj*b is alone in the jar on the study desk I am not actively using now. He is tilting, somewhat, but spend most of his time staying close to the Bahariya rocks on the floor of the jar.

Maybe I should put my toy car in his jar. Guys love cars, don't they?

p/s: I surmised her COD was asphyxia. Her coat was opaque and whitish, could it be an inflammation?

p/s2: I like to think the shorter 4cm one was a female and the longer one was a male. I have no idea on sexing fishes.

p/s3: There is an increasing number of posts about death. Tsk, insaf, insaf.

Hakim is Six

Today is kiddo's birthday. His name is Muhammad Hakim.

Hi, it's Hakim with pop and mommy.

Very much of a bully, extremely talkative masyaAllah, I'm not sure to be annoyed or amused at his brilliance. But at his kindi or with someone unfamiliar, sangat la sopan dan ayu budi pekertinya. Cis, tahu segan.

He is six. Tahniah. Angah doakan Hakim membesar menjadi anak soleh yang berbakti pada Islam, keluarga dan masyarakat.

Rajin-rajin baca buku, jangan tengok kartun banyak sangat, especially Hagemaru, you know I hate that anime.

He used to watch that bloody cartoon, Allah forbid. To annoy him, I called him Hakimaru serta Bokemaru [he had a recent trim, somewhat looked bald XD].

"Hakim suka ke Angah panggil Hakimaru?"

"Tak. Hakim suke nama Hakim."

"Kenapa?"

"Sebab maksud dia pandai!"

Haha. Okay you win, kid.

Back then, he enjoyed Digimon as well thus the boy's name was Hakemon. I was Ikkakumon haha.

Nyaaaa~ Gelenya weh.
This was at Port Dickson summer 2009, kiddo just got over chickenpox.

Owh, I missed when he was younger. Before I departed to Egypt, he was not chubby nor was he skinny. Medium-sized, super cute and functionally pleasant as a bolster and snuggle buddy. He is annoyingly lanky nowadays, urgh imagine hugging skeleton with the ribs prodding out.

With Faris, our neighbour and his kindi-mate playing with the bunny babes. Faris called me Kak Ngah, I think? Or was it Kakak?
Haha sama-sama lanky, sangat annoying.
Kids should be semi-chubby.

This kid is super smart. Last Ramadhan, I asked him to make me a glass of syrup but he said he didn't know how. I thus taught him that night and every night since, Hakim will dutifully present me with a glass to quench my thirst.

Oh wait, that was me super smart! Haha pembuli terhebat, I am so proud of myself.

"Hakim tak puasa, Hakim berkuasa!"
I spent RM2 on him every school day during last summer.
Dah la tak pose.
-__-

And he always insisted me to take him to Az-Zahra public library near SRI Aman. I remembered those sweet time when we read together and went for chinese fried rice afterwards.

I was a bit strict with him (solat, be still, etc), maybe to the point of making him cry and urm, traumatizing him? Haha. Sorry Hakim, I just love you too much, is all.

I wrote a lot about Hakim, if not here then there. Knock yourself out, or just drop by at our home to congratulate our parents for a good son raised.

Aidilfitri 1430H.

You guys pray for our Hakim, too :)

p/s: I celebrated his birthday too, despite the distance :) Haha corny weh.

Tang Lemon, Pyramid's Mozzarella Chicken Macaroni and chips.
Makan 3 orang, haha diet tak hancur lagi
XD

And keropok sayur, jazakillah Anah the loveliest <3

We Met Mr. Sam

I had fun yesterday. And thank you for the memory; I shall remember it for the rest of my life. The visit was well-worth, the sarcasm was well-enjoyed and yes the lesson will be documented should I re-lost possession of my sanity in the coming future.

Thus this post.

Last night the two travelmates and I went down near El-Borg to visit Encik Shamsul (I think I'm the only one calling him that, and the reason was for the sake of skema-ness). As it was three months ago, it was much enjoyable when he started gearing into his seriously serious mode.

1- Be respectful of titles where it concerns; addressing the ahlul bait with their first name without the proper Saidina/Sayyidatina title will warrant a full smack up your head.

Beta dah dua kali kene.. (“Ape Ali/Hussein tu adik-beradik kau?”) How should I know that place was called Saidina Hussein when all the seniors have been calling it Hussein ever since I got here! Tapi salah sendiri sebab tak peka dan terlalu bergantung pada orang.

2- Respect the local’s culture and be optimistic; there are good everywhere if you bother to look for them.

3- Love and respect knowledge and people who embrace it. Carry books with you everywhere.

“In my defense, my book is in my bag! Takkan nak bawak keluar buku depan orang yang kita ziarah?”

4- You are a traveler, be one! Eat (the local food) a lot, talk to the people, SMILE, and be naughty sometimes.

LOL. “By sometimes you mean how many times?”

5- Be careful, yes, but don’t breed prejudice. You will be none the better especially when you go back to your country.

6- Be optimistic. Remember how those neighbours wished you “Alhamdulillah bissalamah” when you came back from Malaysia? Isn’t that better than the sniding “Hai~~” when you see the girl walking alone?

Haha! I was at fault, yes, and probably deserved all the snide remarks in the world. I never did appreciate people rubbing it in my face, but their concern was very much adored and appreciated :)

7- Be grateful of what you have, the every opportunity you were given. Say your thanks and maximize them for the better good.

"Boleh la bagi zakat dekat ustaz-ustaz ni," Ustaz Faiz added with a twinkle.

But I wanna go to Europe again, haha! :P

But most of the time he was being the super jerk mengelentong orang, and I can only say, “Saya dah tak tahu yang mana satu realiti, mana satu ilusi dah.”

Together yesterday were Kak Lin the author (!) pursuing her PhD in Ottawa, the funny Kak Yi Tian (omg, we all laugh at everything!), Abang Azlan the Bank Rakyat branch manager and Ustaz Faiz of Rumah Pahang/KL who I pity for being bullied by them all.

Not. XD

I hereby hope none of the stated above ever stumble across this post :P

p/s: Mera*ap is my favourite thing to do now.

Can't get back up

Let us be the analyzing freak now.

As regards to recent event, I concluded that my fluent lying was a result of undue effort of optimizing every answer I had to give. I was well-accustomed to replying “I’m okay” when in actual I was not and this brought upon the snide remarks I enjoyed from four of my bosses.

Gratefully, so far only four.

I also almost always put ‘run away’ as my first line of defense, when in the past I always stood my ground and never retreated; not once.

Running away is not favourable but it forced me to think twenty steps ahead of others. The negative side is that the problems I piled up effing breed.

Thus the dying lower back.

Yahoo said I am depressed. If I start commenting on that, it would be a fact thus I will be hopeless.

Maybe I should stop being selective with the reality I accept.

I don’t know how to help myself. I’m ruining every effort by analyzing and choosing to do nothing about it.

If you want to clam up and live with it, just do so. You know the consequences, don’t dare come running for help.

Meet the Health Minister

Because I have finally submitted the report for our dinner with the Ministry of Health delegates, I feel compelled to comment about the event personally. Thank you to Safwan for editing the report, you are the bestest boss.

First, the outdoor setting was lovely. I like the wind and the freedom it represented, yet the dust was a bit too much to handle. Oh well, at least you know you're in Egypt.

Second, I was so happy they let us dine prior to the lengthy hour-long speech! Reminiscing on Dato' Pa's visit earlier last semester, I was edgy all through his speech because I was hungry :P (Yeah because students are generally cheapskates.)

Third, Dato' Seri Liow spoke fluent Malay! No accent, haha can I jump in joy? (Pardon me for being so shallow.) It is a nice change from talking to Kelantanese with their perfect accent thus their reason for mocking me. (Haha maaf orang-orang kampung, this is what I call loving banter.)

And here comes my disclaimer before I comment on the minister personally. I have no idea of knowing whether what displayed was his personality as a person or it was his personality as a politician.

Whatever it was, it left me with a good impression :)

He showed sensitivity to the culture by remembering that it was the 21st Syawal and greeted us with Selamat Hari Raya. And when he made his round from table to table, he did not hold his hands out to the girls yet he was the first to shake hands with the boys firmly.

Round the mulberry bush.

Also, he toned down his political inclination. Maybe it had to do with him being a Chinese speaking to a lawn-full of Malays, but what I can neutrally surmise was he spelled out government instead of the ruling party.

And in regards to his portfolio as the Health Minister and the presence of our very own bosses of all doctors in Malaysia, Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham, the Q&A's session was very fulfilling. We asked medical, we got answered medically. The last minister visit was a fall-out for me because I found his answers lacking the wisdom that came with knowing what you're talking about.

Let me explain. Last time, Abang Faizal asked about health tourism and medical engineering and we got a rather (read: very) bleak answer, I'd rather not discuss what the minister answered. This time, Marzuki and Amir Firdaus asked the same ques and Dato' Liow answered to my satisfaction.

Okay, I haven't been fair to Dato' Pa. Sorry Dato', but I'm a medical student thus my inclination is rationalized.

Okay, I have class in about six hours. Have nice days :)

p/s: I like to use this moment to apologize to Syafiq, Hani, Abang Hafiz, Safwan, Kak Fathy and Adilah for repetitively slacking off from the duties of the News Department. I will make amend this time around, insyaAllah, pray patience is around.

Signature

The other day I pranked Ruqayyah on the YM by chatting with her on another friend's ID. Apparently I sucked at imitating thus was quickly confronted with a "Ko sape ha, Nisa tak chatting camni."

"Ohye, Nisa suci. Teka la aku sape."

"Tiqah ke ni?"

Owh, Kiah is good.

---

Those times in the past, I greeted people online with a salam like the rest of us. But then Ustaz Hariff Hassan came and replied me with a proper wslmwbt and this flippant girl was impressed :P

I wonder how he's doing now. Last I heard of him was him marrying a USM doctor.

And then MapleStory struck our heart hard. The online gaming community was courteous in their rush so thank you was often acronymized into ty and we reply with np, which stands for no problem.

I always get away with ty, except there's this one time when a classmate confused my ty with tanya. And there's the problem with Malays always confusing np with nape and every time I reply the common tq with an np, explanation of why that person required my favour ensued. I had to settle with noprob instead.

-____-

Thus np usage was exclusively restricted to during [long-left] gaming and chatting with Haido and the Nik Mazian sibs.

---

"Bila awak nak gambar tu?"

"Bagi selalu pun boleh jugak."

The KL schoolmate was perplexed and the surrounding Kelantanese sniggered.

Ampunkan patik sebab merosakkan jatidiri anak Kelantan, maah banyok deh.

p/s: On a posting rampage. Ini namanya melepaskan gian.

The [Less] Known Fourth

Last two summer, we took Harith shopping at his favourite Jefferson boutique in KB Mall. He browsed through the rack of endless shirt with that pleased smile he tried to hide from his superbly observant sister while I amused myself with studying the Jefferson style that made Harith smiled.

The boutique took pride in their combination of black, white and grey plain cotton smart casual shirt with simple usage of stripe and plaid especially at the collar, cuffs and mid-axillary line. The shirt was always slim-lined, one that follow the slim contour of the average male.

The kiddo who still irks me on occasion.

Harith that day took home what costed me a good USD100. That was quite an expensive PMR prize, but all was well as long as kiddo was happy.

---

He's my 16-year-old brother, this year taking up Accounting stream in SMI Aman. Mom said he was doing well, alhamdulillah for that since I seriously couldn't be of much help in that department.

In his adolescent he was quiet most of the time, choosing to subtlely let the family know what he wanted instead of the demanding route me, Yaya and Hakim took.

Growing up in Australia though, I remembered Harith as the small boy who sat on the doorstep, greeting every passing neighbour with a deep "Hel-loooo" and the crybaby who cried for his other siblings.

Because him being quiet and me ever the boisterous bossy monster, it went without saying that I had trouble getting him to see things my way. There was no common route for us, thus the reason why I took up watching football which was his passion. The infamous World Cup 2006 match marked the first time I watched a match from the opening ceremony till the moment the cup was hoisted for the heaven to see.

I still hate Italy up till now.

---

There wasn't much that reminded me of the fourth of our seven siblings and maybe because of that I persisted to enjoy futsal as my favourite sport (that, and because I get to kick something for a valid reason)

PERUBATAN Medisal Cup 2010; I was a 2nd Grade student in a team of 1st Grade playing against a team of my classmates at school. My loyalty to our batch was thus rightfully questioned.

and why I shamelessly went up to Faeid Othman here just few hours ago and asked, "Baju tu Jefferson, kan?"
