In which Haru needs a new friend

Pantai Senok, Bachok is all the hype nowadays because the rows of planted Beach Rhu looked like somewhere in Korea. Hipsters come and pose. Brides come for photoshoot.

The Rhus are part of the national program of replanting swamp trees. Unfortunately for the place, when people flock to them they leave behind rubbish everywhere. They take pictures but take the beauty for granted. I was pissed when I saw the pictures they all posted with flecks of rubbish on the ground.

So today, on my off day, I went there with two plastic bags of my own. Parked my car and smelled the air. Saw several hipsters picnicking and posing. I scanned the ground and started picking up rubbish in between the rows of Rhu, making my way to the beach and singing to L'arc-en-Ciel.

Ten minutes in, a lady came up to me.

"Hi. Do you have an extra plastic bag."

"Yes I have," I straightened my back.

"May I have one?"

"Sure." I dug out my extra plastic bag.

"Do you study here or work here?"

She was smiling amiably. She didn't look like a threat, but I'm not exactly a fan of talking to strangers. I had my shades on.

"I work." I answered curtly. Why did it matter? This is the world we live in, we are responsible to keep it clean.

"Where?"

"At the hospital."

"Are you a nurse? Or a doctor?"

"Doctor." Dude if you look closely, as you are standing close to me, you would notice I was wearing a scrub.

"Ooh. Thanks."

I nodded and went back to singing and picking up rubbish. I noticed she picked her share with her I-assume husband.

Half hour and my plastic was full. I went to the beach and walked all the way to the lighthouse, climbed up the stone barrier and admired the scene where Sungai Pengkalan Datu (the one running behind HUSM that I went occasionally) ended into the sea. The beach appeared leveled and the wave dangerous. This was not a good spot for a kid to mess around alone, I could fall into the sea unnoticed.

So I went back to where the rhus stood.

---

I haven't been to the Sungai Pengkalan Datu bridge for a while now. The last time I went there, I told Luqman about that place and he said "enlightening. Should have brought me along" and I said "next time".

I'm a man of my word so I should take him with me when I go there next and although I want to, I'm not one to initiate the invite, bwahaha. I just go out and hope we're nirvana enough to meet up without planning to. Stupid, yes. And because I don't go with him, I can't go to the river nowadays. Because I said I'll bring him along the next time I go there.

Man I'm messed up. I need new routes.

I'm grateful for a father who loves his kids more than he loves his cars

So I'm the notorious car-denter in the family (but only second to Hajime). Today I went out in my father's car as I have been since I sent him to the airport yesterday for his Bangkok trip. Mom and him didn't forget to message me to "drive safely" from the airport.

I know, I know. The road at the airport is excellent for speeding and despite what they said, I sped anyway.

So today I went out in dad's government car. Mom told me to be careful. From the way she said it I know she wanted me to take the Innova instead but hey, I've grown to like the Perdana/Honda because of its smooth speed.

And when I got to Lin's house... I accidentally slid too close to the gate and it made a horrifying sound.

Oh God, please don't punish me please please don't let me do this to my dad.

Lin was aghast. I sweat-dropped and told her coolly "I'll handle it later. Let's go to the mall first."

And yeah after we parked, wound inspection showed a clean scratch about 8cm tall and half cm each side of the back door and the body. I was saved. It wasn't bad (compared to how I dented the Innova).

When I got home, I answered mom questions about what we ate and questioned Lin's allergy. I sat down and solemnly started.

"I have something to announce."

Mom turned around to face me. "I knew it."

"I'll send the car for a wash and polish this Saturday." Because tomorrow I'm oncall. Let's not tell dad until he gets back, please?

"How bad was it?" Hyde asked.

"Not that bad, just minimal scratch." Unlike the Innova, I wanted to add but thought better of it.

"Not dented?"

"Nope," I grinned. God I'm a beast. I need to buy my own car to wreck.

Difficulty

I had one whiny patient during my oncall the other day. She was calling for shortness of breath but really, all parameters were stable. I checked, believe me. It was 3am, I need her to be stable. She kept asking for her "ubat cucuk" and I effing checked her med chart, we never endorse her any ubat cucuk. She wasn't even tachypnic, saturation 99, lungs acceptable, ECG normal, I don't know what to give her so I gave her neb saline stat and what do you know, her complaint stopped. She was happy.

I then checked with the nurse and asked her what did the nurses in HDW gave to her that she was currently asking for. Turned out they gave her regular saline, as expected! God.

When she called me a fifth time, I looked up from my two-cases-havent-clerk-yet and told the student nurses oncall who were noting me

"You guys handle her please. I'll give you 10 ringgit."

Prince of Jonah

Last night I was reinserting a branula when Hannan came to my ward bagging a patient from his HDW. I am always happy when I see Hannan, he's cute. So I came to the opposite side of the patient's bed, sat down and talk to Hannan while he bagged and waited for the Anaes to come set the ventilator. Obviously last night was uneventful and I was jobless.

Hannan was talking how he is a jonah person and that even our MO will sigh when they realise they were oncall with him. I laughed him off, I'm not the type to believe in jonahness.

But then, immediately after Hannan left the ward THREE cases came in overflow into our passive ward. Grr Hannan!!

Random CNY thoughts

I want to be the kind of wife my husband comes running to when he is scared. Like our prophet and his wife Saidatina Khadijah.

I haven't figure out how yet. Maybe I need to get married first.

Geng Jalan Dato Lundang

This bunch of highschoolers kept forgetting I'm a second-poster HO. Things like "Beli je tiket dulu, minta cuti kemudian" and "Tulis abstract 10 minit je". They don't seem to remember the limitations of a (Medical) HO and that HOs have a hell of bureaucracy to pass through...

Or is it me the one too skema and thinking too much? Nak tulis abstract pasal trauma celah mana saya duduk Medical sekarang? Traumatic PD?

Sebenarnya Medical pun saya tak habis study lagi apetah lagi nak korek BHT Surgical, huhu. I have to try harder, really harder, to overcome my laziness.
