10th Nov : Musim Sejuk yang Panas

Hari ni saya telah ponteng kelas Dr. Sherif Zaky yang bermula jam 7.30 am semata-mata kerana nak perbaharui visa.

7.30 am sampai Mugamma'.

Raja dihalang masuk oleh pak guard. "At nine."

Sembilan? Bukan ke lapan biasanya dah bukak?

"Sa3ah tamaniah, ya3ni?"

"Aiwah, nine."

Rasa bangga sebab dia berusaha jugak untuk berbahasa asing. Tahniah.

Cop kene betul-betul atas nama!"

Merepek.

Dengan segera berlari dan berteksi ke universiti.

8.30 am di Syuun Tolabah. Kaunter yang berorang adalah kaunter tahun 1, 4 dan 6.

Pergi ke kaunter tahun 1. "Saya nak syahadah."

"Awak tahun berapa?"

"Tahun 2."

"Datang balik sejam nanti."

"Tak boleh ke saya amik borang kat sini?"

"Sejam lagi la, budak."

Merepek.

Tersenyum dengan muka tak puas hati dan study Biochem sekejap depan bangunan.

Sabar... sabar... sabar... Argh!

Masuk balik jam 8.45 am. Makcik kaunter tahun 2 dah muncul! Tahniah, tahniah.

Dia tengah sarapan. "Setengah jam lagi."

Merepek.

Tersengih dan menyeringai depan pintu masuk Syuun Tolabah. Mengulang kembali bacaan Mathurat.

Masuk balik jam 8.50 am.

Dihalau keluar balik.

"Awak nak apa?"

"Saya nak syahadah je." Tersenyum manis. "Je."

"Minta ngan makcik Hoda." Dan dilaungnya nama makcik Hoda banyak kali, sampai la berpaling makcik kaunter tahun 2 dari gosip hariannya.

Oh, nama makcik Hoda ke?

"Bagi la borang syahadah kat budak ni." Makcik di kaunter tahun 4 berkata dari seberang. "Dah lama budak ni kat sini."

Makcik Hoda dengan penuh lemah-gemalai menyerahkan borang syahadah beserta muka tak puas hati kepada saya.

Saya isi dengan segera.

Dah siap. Mana Makcik Hoda?

Pukul 9 am. Kelas Dr. Sherif dah habis.

Dibeleknya. "Nak kernih."

"Sila, sila."

Dibelek, dicakar ruang kosong dan disign borang syahadah saya.

"Nak gambar."

Huh? "Nah, sila."

Disteplernya dahi saya atas borang. Diserahkan kembali.

"Erk, saya nak cop jugak."

"Pergi kaunter tahun 1."

"Baik."

Dengan jurusnye saya ke kaunter sebelah.

"Pergi kaunter tahun 4." Makcik kaunter tu cakap.

Apekah? "Baik."

Menghadap makcik baik kaunter tahun 4 dengan sengihan kerang. "Makcik tu suruh saya datang sini untuk amik cop."

"Pergi balik kaunter tahun 1."

We are not playing pass-the-volatile-Atiqah here! "Ye, baik."

Menapak di kaunter tahun 1.

Kelihatan kelibat makcik yang membawa bersamanya cop-cop.

Saya segera hulur.

Dia tengok.

Saya belek.

"Makcik boleh copkan atas nama saya?"

"Tu atas nama la tu."

"Tak, nak yang betul-betul atas nama." Ceria sahaja nada suara yang meminta-minta itu.

"Budak-budak Malaysia ni kan..."

"Haha," Saya tersengih. "Terima kasih makcik. Moga Allah membanyakkan kebaikan atas makcik."

"Ye la."

Berlari ke kedai fotostat. Ramai orang. Berlari ke Maahad Ta'awun sebab kedai fotostat lain semuanya tutup.

Naik teksi ke Mugamma'.

Sekarang jam 9.30 am.

Terus ke kaunter dan hulur borang.

Makcik tu terus proses borang dengan efisien sekali.

Dia serah balik passport.

Saya tunggu jap.

Dia merenung. "Dah setel la. Awak nak apa lagi?"

Eh? Dah?? "Oh, terima kasih puan."

9.35 am keluar Mugamma'. Kelas seterusnya pukul 11.

Bermain-main sekejap.

"Tak." Tersengih lebar. "Mesti ada la tu, saya buat salah ngan sape kat mana-mana..."

Keluar rumah 10.50 am. Lari!

Lessons for today:
- Be patient.
- Sabar.
- Isbir.
- Plan and well-organize everything.
- Jangan ponteng kelas. Tak berkat.
- Al-akhdzu bil-asbab.

p/s: Saya paling benci semut. Ye, amat.

Kedua saya paling benci lalat.

Nama rumah kami Villa Raihan. Nama panjang Raihany.

Bilik saya agak besar.

Sila berusaha bersungguh-sungguh memeriahkan laman sekolah.

Kepada senior PRISMA, ana tertinggal draf kertas kerja dekat Malaysia. Haha, maaf :P I'll redraft and send it to you guys before the meeting.

Argh, lapar la pulak.

Kepada Kak Fathy, maaf sebab tak siapkan berita spekulasi bajet Gema Aidilfitri. Ditambah pula dengan faktor saya sudah pun menghabiskan menonton trilogi Pirates of the Carribeans dan James Bond lakonan Daniel Craig, maka saya sudah tidak bersemangat untuk menghadap komputer.

Skrol atas jap.

Banyak gile perkataan 'maka'.

Jika kalian ada masa, datanglah melawat. Sila bawak jus mangga bersama.

5hb dah mula kelas. Hebat kan? Sila doakan, ye.

Kempen Sayangi Haiwan

"I'm not stingy, okay? If you want it, just say so. Don't nibble your way into. You understand me?"

They continued running around.

"But, of course I will never share my keropok with you. What makes you think I'm that kind?"

She picked up the piece of keropok and shook them of it. They ran futilely for their life. The evil dictator pressed them flatly on the cold tile.

One unfortunately ventured onto her hand. Lethal mistake. She frowned.

"And don't crawl on me, creep. It's annoying." She accentuated by squeezing the poor soul into oblivion.

"My bed is totally off-limit. If I see any of you on it, that will be the last of you. Mark my word."

The running continued hecticly.

"Good. I'm glad we've reach an agreement."

She picked herself up and grabbed her beloved can of Baygon. Hoisted it readily.

"Goodbye."

---

The mad spraying of Baygon continued. Helpless ants ran wildly for cover.

p/s: Cruelty is necessary. I am particularly allergic to their painful bites.

Away We Fray

Angst is a genre never to be ventured into. It destroys any remnants of good mood, induces tear, promotes break down and wrenches poor fragile heart.

Needless to say, it is not for the faint-hearted.

As sunny as I am, I always stay true to my nature of never ever read anything of angsty material. Especially the ones written by the ever excellent Firefly.

So how come I'm relistening and relistening to this piece? Even to the point of looping this song only?

It reminds me of failures and how deep the effects run when you neglect your responsibilities.

The hopes that will pummel hard on earth. The many hearts you will break.

Ironically, it forces me to force myself better.

3rd Oct: Had I Known How To

Yesterday.

Was pissed off by imarah's main door, seniors and subsequently lashed out on innocent juniors.

The so-not-innocent juniors, whoever, were safely hidden from the wrath of co-owner of Baitun Nuha and acting Ketua Imarah.

Wonder if seniors were ever pissed off by me.

Well, yeah... there was this one time. Oh, and remember when I had to... Not to mention that time when I got lost...

Okay, we're even.

Was soon calmed by the presence of a God-sent calm senior who seemed to be in a chirpy holiday spirit.

Human and their moods.

Took advantage of it by asking for help :P Was replied with a smiley invitation to bother and Raya greetings.

Was I not informed of his marriage? Allah bless him.

Today.

Went to Dokki. Fortunately, didn't take the wrong train this time.

Took my number and was ushered to sit by this kind man. Waited for an hour. Dozed off thrice.

I curse my inability to ask for help.

Went back to the house and was dead on the bed.

Was soon awoken due to the eerie silence. The room... it's too big for just me and Yuuno. Perhaps I should buy two oversized plushies.

One the shape of a crocodile, and the other one of a tiger. Yeah.

Dozing off.

Suddenly, Life by Yui rang. Jolted.

Argh! Ape ni?? Mane boleh call orang lepas 9 malam!

Looked at the caller ID. The time was 2034 hour.

Sighed. Answered it. This better be good.

Dozing... trying to...

Life by Yui rang again.

I should put up a working hour sign. Sighed.

Slumped back. A few minutes. Five, four, three, two, one...

Life by Yui rang again.

The next day.

Class commenced.

Dashed to the bank. Was really drained. Could barely pay for my books.

Id3ilna.

The day after that.

Allah help me with Physiology.

Don't ask for things to be easier. Ask for yourself to be better.

Don't give excuses to be weak.

Am I being too hard? Nope. No. It's normalcy.

And people asked why I'd rather do things on my own. A hipocrite against my own words.

I guess that's personal.

Owed Dijoh a great deal. Please hug her when you see her.

Today was penurunan takhta, as Yuuno calls it. Tomorrow will be the day to save a life.

Be safe, everyone.

Silent Lesson

I am writing this because no cousins of mine are going to read this. If you are my cousin, go away la, please. I'll treat you to mercun when we meet.

Once upon a time, in a land not quite far away, there was a young feisty little lass returning home after nearly a year abroad.

She played, humored and mingled with her beloved family, long-lost friends and pesky school juniors [no offence, kiddoes. I really love you guys.] for nearly two whole months with once a while glance towards her rotting Physiology book.

She too, managed to brush up on her lethal driving skills and meet up with pseudo-nice dentist for a somewhat terrifying scaling job.

Nearing the end of her stay in Malaysia, she and her family returned to their villages to celebrate Eid with the country folks. She hoarded her endless supply of keropok into her cargo bag and dutifully left behind several important essentials; such as her clamshell hair-clip and a gift of Quran from her teacher.

Oh well, she mindlessly shrugged. I can always bully some kind, pretty and helpful neighbors to haul them back for me. Or so she thought.

Nevertheless, they safely arrived in Perak.

Since there were so many aunties around, she was spared the fun-filled kitchen chores. She could be found running around chasing cousins and hugging their teddy-bear figures. Or by her opah listening to her view on life.

When night fall and chubby cousins were left to rest, she huddled with aunties who told her what families were up to.

Kak Ila was engaged to some Ipoh-based guy. Abang Iwan and Abang Rizal were married; the latter currently in Indonesia. Abang Azrul's son has dermatology issues. Abang Saleh's new bike was stolen; the poor soul still paying the monthly installment. Angah is planning on joining her in Egypt. She had an annoying second cousin who is too smart for his own good.

And Abang Yan is working for Ateh, helping him with his palm oil plantation and endless orchard chores.

But I thought he was a mechanic.

He was,
Chik Na said. Until his boss called him to work during lunch break when he was at home, feeding grandpa. He quit the job right there and then.

Oh.

Being the over-indulged observer she is, she cannot go even for a day without a subject of interest. And hers that day was that older cousin.

He was tall, lanky, a simple-dressed fellow of jeans and t-shirts, had a bulb of moustache and barely-there goatee. He played dangerous firecrackers with glee; setting a nasty example on the little kiddies and earning an earful from the skemarama miss goody.

He was your typical rural boy with just enough education, who worked his last drop of will for a living. Who stayed with opah and atuk to care for them when he could just make his break with the army. Or stayed close to his parents and many siblings.

She was your abnormally sane suburban girl faking Tourette syndrome who read medicine as serious as she was chasing chubby baby cousins for a hug. Who sometimes was irked with her immature siblings and lashed out laden with vain.

Who came back for two months after ten months of absence just to act like she cared.

Now she felt awful for giving him that earful.

So true was the words of Allah from surah Al-Hujurat;

Let not some men among you laugh at others:
It may be that the (latter) are better than the (former)
[49:11]

Verily the most honored of you in the sight of Allah
is (he who is) the most righteous of you.
[49:13]

She stood up from staring through her cousin's back and sat next to her atuk, starting a conversation just to hear his voice.

It was time to depart for Melaka and they were saying their goodbyes and take-cares and please-pray-for-me.

He returned from fishing at the river and she sincerely thanked him [for teaching me a life lesson in silence] and apologized [for that nagging on those awfully loud mercun. Though I must say, you'll lose a finger one day. Haha. Okay, I was joking.]

They settled into the cars and the folks waved. She slowly, almost reluctantly waved back.

She looked at each and every one of them. Committing that moment to memory. Her mind flicked and she felt like crying.

Is it worth it?

Stay alive until it is, then.

Spring: Prologue

Dedicated to Annelise Oriti.

We still have that beautiful vase your mother gave us. It's sitting on the corner table as a centerpiece.

I remembered your bagels. Your neat school uniform. And my rainbow hat I gave you before we departed.

Most of all, I remembered that great big sincere smile greeting me every school day.

Lunch on the school compound. You introducing me to the canteen's Doughnut Day.

Me eating in the playground and getting an earful from the prefect. Haha. I was naughty back then.

Thank you. For everything. For your hand in friendship.

Happy days, Annelise.

"Let's go break the law just one more time."

"Muallimah, kira kita present tadi mantap dah ke?"

"Ye, mantap. Tahniah." Angguk-angguk. "Tapi mesti lagi mantap kalau nota ada."

"Kita pergi solat terawih, muallimah!"

"Ape banat tak solat terawih ke?"

"Diorang uzur, muallimah!"

The class laughed.

"Hah?" Mouth dropped. "Mulut, ya Rabbi..."

"Isu sensitif tu!" A banin chirped.

"Ok, ok. Dah." Laughter resided. "Kumpulan seterusnya dipersilakan."

One banat got up and passed around neatly-typed notes for the whole class. She took her spot, ready to present her part on Khalifah Ali Abu Talib.

The class shuffled in focus.

"Aslmwbt."

The earlier banin replied in a sing-song voice.

"Jangan layan dia. Teruskan."

He sniggered.

"Pertama sekali, nota ini saya buat semalam, selepas balik dari solat terawih."

Laughter enrupted. With a huge grin, the teacher set to the banins and said, "Ambik!"

"Ahhh. Buat semalam. Kita tak main buat kerja last minit ni."

Males. They just gotta win.

Lessons:
-Be in control of your time.
-Less excuses, more productivity.
-Make nice notes.

The next day...

"Kenapa lembik je ni? Bersemangat sikit nak belajar!"

"Semalam kita i3tikaf, muallimah!"

Crisp

"Ustaz nak amik semua masa ana pun, ambillah."

"Terima kasih la muallimah. Sebab tiga-tiga masa ana minggu depan habis [sebab cuti Nuzul Quran]."

"Bulan-bulan puasa ni, ustaz nak amik masa ana pun boleh." Seorang guru lain berseloroh. "Rajin Ustaz Amin."

"Nak buat macam mana, dah amanah."

Amanah. Okay there, get to work.

Pop! Goes the Wea~sel

"Occam's razor. The simplest answer is usually correct."

"Usually. But not always."
Life is about how you deal with changes.

If it's towards the better, then it's how you work your way maintaining it and to being a devoted, grateful servant.

If it's headed for the south, then it's how you fix it. Leech on it till the table turns towards the good.

It put your resilience to the test. The ultimate push of patience and passion.

Unfortunately, those are two things I'm seriously lacking.

Life can never be defined by logic. Even the basis of atheism itself was laid upon the presence of an unexplained great force.

If it's all about logic, I suggest we make a case study on;
1) how I passed through first year of medical study with my kind of attitude,
2) my fixation for Maple.

The simplest answer will be;
1) I cheated,
2) ...

I dunno. I'm more of a fiction kind of person. You know, the one who twisted up Alice in Wonderland so it'll be killer White Rabbit marching up with Knight and Jabberwock against the eeevil Keith brothers.

I feel old.

Alone is not Lonely

Woke up. Blinked. The light was on. Could have sworn she turned it off before retiring yesterday.

There was only the two of them in the apartment, so...

"Did you woke me up?" She croaked towards her right.

Yuuno shuffled in his pen.

"Oh, thanks."

Performed her morning ritual. Made her compulsory coffee-flavored milk and walked back towards her room.

Placed the mug on the table. Booted her laptop.

Opened the balcony door wide. Sniffed the fresh morning air.

Necessities yet to pack. Furnitures yet to dissemble. Shopping list yet to be finished.

Cannot help but sigh.

"You know, I could really use a hand right now."

Yuuno stared up and met her eyes.

She nodded. "I'll go get your breakfast."

Baitun Nuha

Mari berkenalan.

Atiqah, Yuuno, Ara-chi, Rodhi, Lin.

Kami ahli SS501 Baitun Nuha.

Baiklah. Semoga kalian terus sihat dan ceria.
