New Approach to Blood Donating

Let me shift your paradigm about blood donating.

First, it's about sharing with others the very thing that keeps you living. Instead of just sharing food, reminders, notes, pens and punches that are mutually regarded as essential for the survival of human, why not donate blood and practically own that person for life?

Second, it's about building up concern for animals and nature. Your donated blood will help to sustain another person's life and you will be so overwhelmed with just how much contribution you can do by sitting still and be pricked for a while; so much that you would want to contribute just as much to the surrounding street cats and dogs and the fluttering leaf in the windy spring.

Third, it's about romance. You can't really get more intimate than having your blood cruising in his/her veins.

Fourth, it's about keeping yourself physically, mentally and emotionally fit. In order to participate for a blood-donating campaign the next day, you'll have to be so! If you had a pathetic 3 hours of sleep the night before, had nothing throughout the whole day except for two cups of coffee, and is lacking blood as it is; you'd better forget it.

Or maybe it is a clever way of delusionally avoiding the scale ;)

Proud

Do you know the proudest person on earth? I don't for fact, but tonight during the Medicophilic Month 2011 closing ceremony, I can relate to him no matter who he is.

1) Umairah, Muhammad and Ellya won the debate!

I like it that Sarah was in this picture along with the guys, she represented the tuan-rumah-kami-tumpang-kasih-sayang-dan-makanan-semasa-brainstorm hihi

*penguin dance*

2) The Top 3 finalists for Public Speaking and Farhan of 1st Year Al-Azhar winning the crown are exactly as I expected.

Syaimaa' (1st runner-up), Ahmad (2nd runner-up), Paan (MeM Director),
Baem (Timb. Presiden I PERUBATAN), Farhan (champion!)

I met him post ceremony and he agreed to do an email interview for PO. I know what I want to bomb him with and I like it when I can put personal inclination in our association's official site, it gives me a feeling of pseudo-greatness ;)

Check out the finished interview! :D

3) I see light in videography.

When you have an engaging plot, good use of camera angle, a great sense of What's Hot and imbue all that smoothly, you will make a fan of story-telling (especially yours truly) all ears and perked up.

That, in my measly opinion, are the main factors for my affinity to HA Production and Koshary Production's piece.

And to see that the Audiovisual Department is practically glowing with their After Effect proficiency, I can't help but feel challenged to improve myself and the team ♥

Let me bask in this proud feeling tonight, let me sleep happy.

Bye Jebat

Jebat died today. I was giving them water to cool down just before Asar when I noticed him stiff and cold, irresponsive to my touch. His eyes were closed, dark and sunken.

I shrank.

Don't Get Too Close

I don't know about Malaysia, but here in Egypt, toxoplasmosis is a problem of girls. Girls here love cats and kittens so much, more than they love their parents.

They will play with their cats, eat with their cats, do everything with their cats.

When they grow up, they will get married but they will still be with their cats. Then they will get pregnant, still with their cats.

Girls might get
toxoplasmosis and remain asymptomatic. Toxoplasmosis doesn't cause problems in the pregnant girls, but in the infant.

Parasitology lab, 10-11 am 29th March 2011

Lead a hygienic life and see a doctor for your pregnancy check-up. And be good to animals.

B*** Has a Fetish for Baju Kurung

It is the common cold season now, and due to the rhinovirus's multiplicity of antigenic type of more than 100 serotypes, it is highly recurring. Impressive pesky creatures, aren't they?

2010/11 is my immunocompromised year yet. Weak.
Whatever happened to my Muwasofat?

And today, we meet up with one of their latest victim.

Won't End Here, Though

When you don't have much, you should at least appreciate the minute cluster you have.

If you can't handle her at her worst; or in this case the most annoying time, you sure don't deserve her at her best; at her most patient. Regardless of your physiological state, there is a thing called time-out. There is not ever a valid reason to blow up.

We're not getting back to where we were, are we? Last time I can still say I'm friends with you, but I can't now, can I? I'll miss us dearly.

Allah will give you a better friend, as He will for me, though I doubt I can get a friend greater than you. For the times, fun and lessons; thank you. I will grow up this time.

Drama Queen

Microbiology midterm exam was today and I was reading notes when Fadzlin came up to me.

"Atiqah," she rubbed me head, whining. "Aku tak habis baca lagi-"

"Sudah la kau budak genius." I quickly cut her off.

"-mati la aku." >~<

"Mati la kau sorang." -_-

Killer Black Platform Stiletto

Three main ways to control pain in patient requiring opioid analgesic:

1- Pro re nata (as needed)
where drug is administered when the patient complains of worsening / recurrent pain.

2- Fixed-dose schedule
where drug is administered at specified times regardless the patient is in pain or not.

3- Continuous IV infusion / Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA)
where drug is administered continuously by the patient in pain for his own relief.

Our doctor said the third option is currently the best, where in advanced country they use a PCA infusion pump that will administer morphine for example, intravenously.

The second option is what is currently used in the absence of a PCA device.

She raised the issue of addiction to morphine when the patient himself is able to administer his own drug, "but you couldn't deny his right to be pain-free. There is no addiction when the patient is in pain. Once the pain is gone and the patient grew addicted, it is the doctor's job to treat the addiction." Or so was her words.

Which lead me to House and his Vicodin addiction, as they said. How can you say he is an addict when he is in pain and in need of the drug? He walks with a cane (a very cool one with hot flames, btw) and goes all grumpy and aggressively misanthropic when he had that bet with Cuddy to be drug-free for a day.

But it is a matter of pain management, is it not?

Patients have the right to be pain-free and they could sue the doctor when inflicted with avoidable circumstances. But when it comes to developing addiction, I think this goes somewhat weird with the doctor's oath of 'Do no harm' but maybe I should ask you, him, anyone and search up PubMed or my Psychology books but right now I need to get back on Pharma.

p/s: Our Pharma doctor had the most dashing shoes ever!

You know how your choice of shoes says a lot about you, and hers just screamed crazy awesome! And she actually walked in it! I was so amazed I stared at her feet for the first two-minute of lecture haha.

Americanized In-Flight

This could probably top my most boring flight ever. No in-flight entertainment!

"Discounted service," dad replied me. "Be grateful."

Talk about lack of enthusiasm. I ate my breakfast croissant with gusto but merely scraped my nasi lemak. Stowed the yogurt, muesli bites and OJ for later and had my table cleared. Oh, the coffee was obligatory.

Later when we landed in Dubai, I ate my leftovers. Maybe flying isn't for me, I'm no Superman. Happily read Time and looped on Glee's Toxic. Liberal, secular, Americanized, whatever. I was restless.

I sat at 22H, which is on the top level of this Airbus. Most of the kids here went down to visit 'orang bawahan' but I was too lazy da-di-dum. The person I'd like to meet is out of reach.

Soon we resumed flying the three-hour-and-a-half journey to Cairo. They served lunch and again I scraped the chicken out of my beriyani, stabbed the green in my salad and stole my neighbour's tomato.

I think I left my appetite at home lol. Except for coffee which is welcomed anytime of the day.

On second thought, maybe I should watch my dosage. Dark circles are spawning! and no, I don't think my mind is straight now.

1st Mac - ATV at Kemensah

Abang Sadiq Sigaraga picked us at the Zoo Negara entrance around 3pm, hauling us through the edgy ride up Kampung Kemensah. We passed TV3 crew van coming down the hill and Abang Sadiq told us they had just finished shooting an episode for Remaja Extreme.

That tells you how famous this place is.

According to Abang Mas the owner, he situated ATV Adventure Park at Kemensah as this is the closest forest to KL and I agree it is a brilliant spot to run away from the city every weekend or so. Apart from earning few RMs for himself, he also intended to help the locals by recruiting them as the center's guide.

First off after paying RM90 per head and signing a consent form, they let us choose our ATV and practiced circuling the course around the compound for 4-5 times. Soon after, we lined up like the good lambs we are and headed towards the tiered waterfall Kemensah is famous for.

Picture stolen from Nisa

Originally, we planned to enjoy picnicking by the waterfall and splash around without wetting ourselves head to toe, but then the rain fall in buckets and planned something else.

We ate with our clothes already wet. Abang Halim called us to clean up and cmon.

The rain fall heavier with the thunder twice or was it thrice? It was so close even the guide flinched in surprise. I then understood the tragedy of the lone biker with no raincoat nor a place to shade in the thundering rain.

We were soaked to the bone! My shoes were damming water. Plus it was the first day of the month thus, enough said. Dark clouds were practically hovering over my head.

The trip down was slippery and the water puddles made some of us (namely M and N) crazy with adrenaline in the form of speeding up prior to a puddle. Abang Sadiq laughed, mockingly approving.

The bad side of slippery was that, when your deadly grip was sort of weak on the brake, sliding down the steep will definitely spike up the accident factor. I slided, and unable to stop despite gripping the brake for dear life, yelled out Nisa's name before my ATV slammed into hers.

Thank God the tires were so big and was the point of contact so all the forces were absorbed. Fuhh, though the guides did shout back a warning to keep your distance!

And when the guide told you not to take the foot off the foot-rest, LISTEN TO HIM! But in my defence, reflex took control when my ATV tilted and my feet just acted on its own, kind in the intention of stabling the 200-kg running vehicle on the side bank.

It was unnecessary, since the ATV was build to be stable regardless. The monster crushed my leg to the bank, resulting in a frightening bruise of epic proportion. 10cm x 7cm T-T

I was scared of DVT impacting my ventricles or lungs rendering me dead. Oh the exaggeration!

Ironically, the rain stopped once we arrived at the base camp. We dried up and the owner Abang Mas hitched us a ride in his pick-up truck back down to the entrance of Zoo Negara. He was asking the girls about Egypt and so on while I pressed my handphone as close to my ear as possible to make out the words of Miss JPA detailing on my BTN call for the day after I get back to Kelantan!

Depressing end to a fun and adventurous day actually, but you can't always have all the cake to yourself.

p/s: I actually wrote this on 20th Mac and you know what, remnants of the bruise is still there! TT_TT

28th Feb - Come Take Me Shopping

Ikea is a fun and inspiring place. You can walk around and start building up imagination on how your own place will turn out in the future. There's a particular set for a small bedroom; equipped with a single bed, an open back bookcase in front of a stunning workstation. Plus this neat tall drawer for all the wardrobe you own. All plated in metal and shades of white.

INSPIRED!

So that's when I decided it should be someone who will take me shopping at Ikea, hehe. I hardly ever go shopping so this shouldn't count as domestic violence, don't you worry ;)

Afterwards we met Hadi and kakak, the former treated me to coffee and cupcakes since the elusive Daim cake was out of order. I originally ordered meatballs but they were out as well, understandable since we started queuing 15 minutes before the closing time.

He's an odd old chap, my brother. I wondered what I was supposed to do with the salt and pepper he grabbed for me.

Response to Mosquitoes

Budak ni hilang buku teks Aqidah dan buku tulis Sirah dia, mana nak cari?

There are a lot of mosquitoes at the airport. The problem is not in getting bitten (it is btw), but how to curb the urge to smack them hard everytime they make an appearance. The loud thwack! will undoubtedly render attention and this is not Egypt where you can do whatever you want whenever you want.

Cubaan mengekang keganasan budak buas gagal berikutan tangannya yang halus tak berisi maka timbul ketakutan mungkinkah ianya patah andai dipaut dengan erat.

This is Malaysia where people scorn at oddities. And walking with your family will spill the public glare onto them, too.

Budak buas bergayut pada tiang di ruang menunggu.

21st Feb - Guling

No new post means I'm too lazy or too busy to write. It's usually the former but since I'm in Malaysia now, there's plenty to do plus we have plenty of spaces and couches at home and not at the house in Egypt so yeah berguling-guling is a must.

Also my driving license is only valid in Malaysia thus racing can only be done here. Haha. (I like to be on the safe side and say "I'm kidding LOL" but who am I kidding?)

120km/j

"80.. 90.. 100!" Hakim bersorak membaca meter kereta. "Nak dekat 120!"

"Wah! Best gile bawak laju~" Yang memandunya sengih gile lambang puas hati. Masa tu tengah lalu depan Kota Bharu Medical Center (KBMC), haha sewel gile bawak lebih 100 km/j dalam bandar. Depan hospital lak tu.

"Bahaya la, nanti langgar orang," Yaya di sebelah persoalkan dengan muka berkerut serta kelihatan sedikit kecut. Budak baik, dia memakai tali pinggang keselamatan tanpa disuruh. Sangat matang budak yang baru lepas berlatih taekwan do.

"Ika reti la control laju, relaks la." Sengih angkuh, seraya memperlahankan kereta sebab masuk balik laluan kiri dan sedang membontoti sebuah Kancil.

"Tapi jangan bagitau mama tau."

"Jangan bagitau ape?" Hakim tanya. Saya senyap je, terpaksa lebih fokus sebab jalan baru diturap dan semalam ke bilentah nyaris terlepas lorong nak masuk kejiranan Taman Muttaqin.

Ada kaitan ke, haha.

"Oh! Jangan bagitau mama Kak Ngah bawak laju!" Dan kami semua ketawa, saya sebab situasi ini sangat ironik.

Updated:

The next day I gave Hakim a ten-minute silent treatment because he spilled to Mom. You know what happened next. LOL.
