But then it was my Surgery lecture, discussing liver trauma and the words of my professor haunt me until this day.

I think the answer I found then was only 98% conclusive. Here I am. Always thinking why.
Nowadays I tend to gravitate to trauma surgeries. Because the essence of trauma surgery is to do whatever to keep the patient alive. Even if you don't want to live, you have to save others' life and for them to keep living.
"Get out with a live patient with whatever odd means
Then come back again with better odds"
